About Me
 Dear Sewing Friend , My name is Barbara Evans, and I was taught to sew by my mother when I was about 10 years old. We lived on a sheep farm in a little place called Mangatahi, miles from the closest town of Hastings, in Hawke’s Bay, on the east coast on the North Island of New Zealand. It was a beautiful place with lots of trees and green pastures. We were a family of four children and Mum sewed all our clothes and taught me the love of sewing. I loved the country life and in those days we were taught by our parents to cook, sew and be very resourceful, enjoying and appreciating nature. I taught my daughter the love of sewing, and she sews for her two children and now her daughter is keen to learn to sew at the age of seven. In the early 1970's I gained a New Zealand Diploma In Fashion Design and Pattern Draughting with Merit, which is recognized all over the world. Over the years I have been a pattern maker and clothing cutter, a tailoress, made my own wedding frock which I wore to our wedding, purchased heaps of fabric to sew countless garments. My work as a dressmaker, teaching teenagers how to sew in a training intuition, stitching all types of garments, helping friends with their sewing queries and problems, has all served to provide me with a huge amount of knowledge, which I want to share with you via Sewing Easy. A few years ago I put pen to paper incorporating my simple, sewing easy methods, running classes to teach girls and young Mums how to sew and testing those methods.The Sewing Easy course was a great success, the girls were thrilled as they learnt to sew on their own sewing machines. How else can you learn to sew if you cannot operate your own sewing machine? Sewing Easy will teach you how to do this.
